What to Do When You Don’t Feel Motivated
There are days when I absolutely do not feel like working out. Days when I feel tired, stressed, bloated, or just mentally foggy. And on those days, motivation feels like a stranger. But over time, I’ve learned a few things that help me keep going — even when I don’t feel like it.
1. I remind myself of my “why.”
I don’t work out to look a certain way — I do it to feel better, sleep better, reduce anxiety, and feel strong in my skin.
2. I allow imperfection.
Not every workout has to be intense. Sometimes I just stretch, walk, or dance around the kitchen. It still counts.
3. I reduce the pressure.
Instead of planning a 45-minute workout, I commit to just 5 minutes. If I still don’t want to continue after that, I stop. But 90% of the time, I keep going.
4. I change the vibe.
I put on a fun playlist, wear something cute, open the windows, and move in a way that feels enjoyable — not like punishment.
5. I forgive myself.
If I skip a day (or three), I don’t beat myself up. I just try again the next day. One missed workout doesn’t ruin everything.
Motivation comes and goes. But the habit of showing up — gently, with kindness — makes all the difference.
So on those low-energy days, ask yourself: “What would feel good right now?” Maybe it’s a stretch. Maybe it’s rest. Listen to your body, not your guilt.
